The Overlooked Humanitarian Crises: Beyond Gaza, Israel, and Iran, What Wider Issues Are We Neglecting?

Staff Writer. 4/14/2024. 12:48 pm

We mustn't overlook the scale of humanitarian crises beyond conflicts in Gaza, Israel, and Iran. As the world salivates on how to solve these three regions' conflict, at present, over 100 million people are displaced due to conflict and disaster, and a projected 340 million will require humanitarian assistance in 2023. These figures represent real people who need our support and attention.

Let us take a closer look at some of the most pressing humanitarian crises that require our collective attention:

Somalia is grappling with conflict, displacement, and food insecurity. We must not disregard the plight of its people.

Ethiopia faces complex challenges, such as armed conflict, displacement, and food scarcity. The crisis here demands our attention and intervention.

Afghanistan has a history of conflict, where civilians continue to suffer from violence and instability. We must address their situation.

The Sahel Region in Africa experiences ongoing violence, displacement, and food insecurity. It deserves more global attention.

South Sudan is burdened with civil war, hunger, and displacement. The World community must not ignore the suffering of its people.

The Southern Philippines is dealing with armed conflict and humanitarian challenges. We must not disregard its situation.

Myanmar is experiencing ongoing crises, including displacement and human rights violations, despite political changes. The world should not ignore this.

West Papua has been plagued with a prolonged armed conflict between the Indonesian army and the West Papuan population. The West Papuan people have been subjected to collective punishment, including torture, violence, discrimination, humiliation, and displacement of thousands of individuals at the hands of the military and government.

These crises may affect a minority of the global population, but their impact is significant. They account for a disproportionate share of forcibly displaced individuals, food-insecure populations, and overall humanitarian needs. As a global community, we must recognize our shared responsibility and strive for greater awareness, empathy, and concerted efforts to alleviate their suffering. Together, we can make a difference. 🌍🤝
