UK-Nigeria Enhanced Trade and Investment Partnership: A New Colonial Agreement or a Mutual Benefit Deal?

Ask not what Nigeria can do for Britain, but what Britain can do for Nigeria. That has always been the trade agreement between Nigeria and its former colonial masters. Are we now signing a new colonial agreement?

The United Kingdom (UK) and Nigeria have recently signed an Enhanced Trade and Investment Partnership (ETIP) to boost trade and investment between the two nations. This historic agreement is the first of its kind between the UK and an African country and marks a significant milestone in their diplomatic and trading relationships.

The ETIP covers a range of sectors that are critical to both economies, including financial and legal services, the film and media industry, and UK education providers offering high-quality education in Nigeria. The agreement seeks to deepen economic ties and create new business opportunities that will benefit both countries.

Opinion: This agreement should be explicit, and the agreement must itemize what Nigeria is allowed to do in and for England and not just what Britain is allowed to do in and for Nigeria?

The partnership also includes the removal of any barriers that previously prevented UK lawyers from practicing international and foreign law in Nigeria. This significant move is expected to increase UK legal services exports to Nigeria and strengthen the legal services sector in both countries.

Question: Are Nigerian Attorneys allowed to practice law and meddle in Britain's music and movie industries?

Nigeria, the largest economy in Africa and one of the world's fastest-growing economies, is predicted to be among the top 20 economies by GDP by 2035. The UN forecasts that Nigeria's population will almost double to over 370 million people by 2050. These demographic and economic projections make Nigeria a key partner for the UK.

Business and Trade Secretary Kemi Badenoch expressed her optimism about the partnership, highlighting the opportunities this agreement creates for both countries. She will sign the ETIP alongside Nigerian Trade Minister Doris Nkiruka Uzoka-Anite in Abuja, where she will also explore further collaborations that promote shared economic prosperity and mutual benefit. Explain Miss Doris Nkiruka Uzoka-Anite what you mean by promoting shared economic prosperity and mutual benefit between both countries?

The signing of the UK-Nigeria ETIP represents a significant step forward in strengthening diplomatic and trading relationships between the two nations. This partnership fosters growth, cooperation, and mutual benefit, and underscores the shared vision of both countries towards achieving common goals and advancing their bilateral relationships.

Where is the Nigerian news media to question the ETIP and make sure Nigeria is not being sold again to Britain?
