In December 2023, the Sun reported that Femi Gbajabiamila, the Chief of Staff to the President, expressed his satisfaction with the new hospital in the Presidential Villa. He stated that the clinic was built to a world-class standard and was equipped with high-quality medical equipment not commonly found in many places worldwide. The 14-bed Presidential Clinic, also known as the Aso Villa, was built at a cost of about N21 billion and was expected to play a vital role in promoting the well-being of Nigeria's leaders and citizens.
However, on 5th July 2024, Sahara Reporters reported that President Tinubu was seeking medical attention in France and would return to Nigeria the next day. Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to President Tinubu on Information and Strategy, confirmed this news in a tweet on Tuesday. The revelation that the President was seeking medical attention abroad raises questions about the effectiveness of the world-class standard hospital in the Presidential Villa.
Despite the significant investment made in the clinic, President Tinubu appears to still prefer to travel to France for medical treatment. Tinubu jetting to France to seek medical treatment raises concerns about the cost to Nigerian taxpayers and the effectiveness of the Presidential Clinic in supporting the well-being of the President and other leaders in the country.
