"I often wonder how we, the leaders, feel about travelling in sophisticated manners while most of our infrastructure, used by the majority, including our foreign investors, is left neglected."-PO.

His Excellency Peter Obi, the Labour Party presidential candidate during the 2023 elections, expressed his profound concern and disappointment over the country's poor condition of public assets. While travelling through the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja on Wednesday, he witnessed four men carrying a physically challenged traveler in a wheelchair up the stairs. The elevator and escalator at the facility had not been functional for the past three months, making it impossible for people with disabilities to access the airport.

Obi boldly criticized the state of the country's national assets and questioned why leaders overlooked them. He found it absurd that such a situation was happening in the nation's capital, where dignitaries and foreign investors travel frequently. He also disapproved of the Presidency's claim that the country's President was embarking on a private trip, stating that there was nothing private for a sitting President.

According to Obi, a sitting President is a public national asset, and all his movements should be public knowledge and matters of public interest. Even when he needs a private visit, he should state so, which is graciously allowed. However, private visits, like the one the President embarked on, should be done at his expense and not at public cost.

Obi confidently emphasized that the country needs to implement drastic cost-cutting measures to address every issue that demands attention, such as maintaining small public assets. He acknowledged the President's effort to reduce travel costs by 60%, but he believes it still needs to be improved, given the country's significant problems.

In conclusion, Obi called for savings to be appropriately used for every minor public good and urged leaders to care as much about public assets as they do about their sophisticated travel arrangements.
