Chief Ayo Adebanjo is a highly respected icon of Nigerian politics, celebrated for his unshakable commitment to the Yoruba people and his remarkable contributions to the nation. Let us delve into his inspiring biography and achievements.

Born in Ijebu Ogbu Oke, Odogbolu Local Government Area, Ogun State, on April 10, 1928, Chief Adebanjo attended several schools in Lagos, including Saint Saviours Primary School, Holy Trinity School, and Cathedral School. His educational journey led him to the United Kingdom, where he studied law and was called to the bar in Lincoln City in 1961. He then returned to Nigeria and worked as a journalist for the Nigerian Tribune. Adebanjo also served as the Action Group's first organizing secretary from 1947 to 1953.

Adebanjo's unwavering loyalty to the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo and Awoism saw him speak out against various issues within the administration. He later became the leader of the National Democratic Coalition and, eventually, the head of Afenifere, a Yoruba sociopolitical organization, in 20211. His visionary leadership of Afenifere has been instrumental in promoting Yoruba culture, political rights, and interests. The organization was critical in establishing the AD political party in 1998. Adebanjo also maintained close ties with Yoruba leaders such as Chief Abraham Adesanya and Chief Bola Ige, consistently championing Yoruba causes.

Adebanjo is renowned for his steadfast commitment to truthfulness, dignity, and character. He fearlessly speaks out on issues affecting Nigeria, regardless of external pressures. He believes power rotation is crucial in maintaining fairness and equity in Nigerian politics.
