Recently, KWAM 1 refused to surrender a flask suspected of containing alcohol on a ValuJet flight, allegedly spilling its contents on crew members and preventing the aircraft from taking off. In contrast to his treatment, he was: Not arrested, Not charged and Not publicly humiliated.
He even issued a public statement defending himself while the Attorney General remained silent. Despite the NCAA calling for prosecution, no legal action has been taken. This stark disparity highlights an unjust system. A sitting Diaspora minister Abike Dabiri released his apology and asked Nigerians to forgive. " To err is human"
A Tale of Two Justice Systems⚖️⚖️
Comfort Emmerson on the other hand faced humiliation—her dignity stripped and her voice silenced. Her bare body photo'd and released to social media by an airline staff and she was charged immediately in court and thrown into KiriKiri without giving the chance to tell her own story and apology. Meanwhile, KWAM 1's fame seemingly grants him immunity. This situation speaks to a broader issue of whose humanity is recognized in Nigeria. Abike Dabiri have been crickets and has not even mentioned the dehumanization of a fellow woman or quoted " To err is human." God must have a wicked sense of humor when it comes to Abike Dabiri. Things keeps blowing up on her face.
What Must Change in the tales of two justice worlds
1. Ibom Air’s Conduct must be Reviewed. A public apology must be issued to Comfort Emmerson.
The crew's behavior must Investigated and security measures put in place to prevent this from repeating.
2. Equal Enforcement of Aviation Law that does not discriminate
KWAM 1 must be Prosecuted under the same Civil Aviation Act.
Ensure fair disciplinary action for all passengers.
Nigerians must not let them sweep this under the rug.
3. Passenger Rights Charter
The Civil aviation and Ibom air must establish guidelines for crew conduct and treatment of vulnerable passengers.
Protect passengers against public humiliation and privacy violations.
🧠 Conclusion: Its no brainer.
Comfort Emmerson’s case highlights a system that often favors the privileged over the powerless. For Nigeria to be just, dignity must be a right for all, even at 30,000 feet.
