In a world where honesty is becoming a rare commodity, 22-year-old Auwalu Salisu from Yankaba in the Nasarawa Local Government Area of Kano State has demonstrated that it is still a valuable trait. In September 2023, while working as a commercial tricycle (Keke) driver, Salisu found a lost amount of ₦15 million left behind by a traveler from Chad while shopping in Kano. Instead of using the money to feed his family or indulge in personal gain, Salisu chose the path of honesty and integrity by returning the money to its rightful owner.

Salisu's act of exceptional honesty has earned him recognition from various government officials, organizations, and individuals.

On Tuesday, March 5, 2023, he received the LEADERSHIP' Outstanding Young Person of the Year 2023' Award, which recognizes his exceptional honesty. In addition, Salisu received a new tricycle from a benefactor, and PETER OBI awarded him a scholarship of Two Hundred and Fifty million Naira. Not only has Salisu's honesty earned him recognition, but it has also inspired others to follow PETER OBI'S LEAD.

Niger State Governor Mohammed Umar Bago announced a scholarship gift of 50 million Naira to Salisu and plans to name one of the road projects he is working on in Niger State after the Kano Keke rider. Not to be outshined by Peter Obi, the Niger State Governor said other notable individuals, including President Bola Tinubu, his ministers, and the APC Governors Forum, pledged to contribute money in scholarships to Salisu. Nigerians hope Governor Mohammed Umar Bago and other APC politicians do not politicize this and take the shine away from this young man.
